Sustainability

Sustainability in Landhaus Beckmann

The Landhaus Beckmann is a hotel with a wellness area at the Lower Rhine Area. The history of the house began in 1850. At that time, Landhaus Beckmann was still a farm that lived from agriculture and cattle farming. Over the decades it developed into a pub, then a restaurant and is now a 4-star hotel with 48 rooms. Today it is run by the fourth generation of Beckmann/Große Holtforth family. The issues of sustainability and vegan nutrition now play an important role for us. Various vegan dishes are offered on the menu, all drinks on the menu,, cosmetics in the spa and in the hotel rooms as well as cleaning agents are made vegan. Wherever it is possible for us, we look for vegan alternatives.

Current electricity consumption in the hotel

Honored with the GreenSign

Nowadays, Sustainability is an important topic that everyone should deal with. It is no longer just about reducing CO2, but also about efficient modernization and the use of new technologies.

For our hotel this means that smart decisions have to be made and all of this without sacrificing the comfort you want.

The GreenSign is the GreenLine Hotels’ sustainability seal and was specially created in cooperation with Heilbronn University. It certifies the areas of environment, purchasing, transport, quality management and social responsibility for sustainable, entrepreneurial behavior.

Dealing with Energy

Throughout the house we rely on energy saving lamps and energy-saving LEDs. In addition, we use motion sensors in the stairwell and the night entrance, so that really only energy is consumed when it is really needed.

For electricity and heat generation we use a roof-mounted cogeneration plant. A conventional heater uses a fuel (e.g., gas) to produce heat and hot water. A badger cogeneration not only generates heat and hot water, but also electricity. And most energy efficient, because almost no energy is lost. The system is simple: a motor drives a high-power generator that produces electricity. The resulting heat used directly to heat the building. The resulting electricity is consumed directly on site or fed into a grid for a fee. That makes the badger a heater with real added value-ecologically and economically. (Source: DerDachs.de)

This project was funded by the European Union and its funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

We take this as an “investment in our future” that has a high added value in the community. Since June 2017: Fixed charging stations for E bikes and electric cars. The electricity, which is used for this comes from our cogeneration plan, which generates this as a “waste product”. This makes our charging stations particularly sustainable and environmentally friendly.

More sustainable areas

Dealing with Nature

Our flowers come from the region and are not transported over long distances.

We participate in the Niederrhein bike rental system and provide a free charging station for e bikes.

We pay attention to a strict separation of waste into paper, glass, plastic and organic waste.

Dealing with water

Of Course, this also applies when dealing with water, a very precious resource. We use environmentally conscious and water-savings dishwashers, washing machines and dryers, which also work with the principle of heat recovery.

For longer stays towels are changed only for request of guests, this indicated by a note “for the sake of environment” in the room.

Focus in the kitchen

In the restaurant, we mainly use products from the region, so that long transport routes are avoided. When purchasing, we pay attention to sustainability seals of quality (e.g. fair trade organic coffee). Our breakfast eggs come from free-range hens on a farm in Kevelaer.

Ethic-Ecological provision & insurance

With its offer, the FIBUR GmbH fits perfectly into our concept as a further component in our sustainable orientation. The company specializes in state-sponsored private old-age provision occupational disability insurance. With all insurance from the FIBUR GmbH it is certain that the monthly contributions do not promote business models and activities that have a damaging effect on our planet and its inhabitants e.g. nuclear power, green genetic engineering and child labor.
